Being gaulish isnt exactly about roots, its to define a way of life, a societal class and an ideology.
The gauls as the history depicts, are the people that composed the french popular class under monarchy and under the roman reign. They were always put on their knees but never submitted, the gauls resisted to caesar and even won for a period, then they threw back the franks in the french revolution and at last they resisted against the german invasion, in WW1 and WW2. This feeling of being the submissive and poor race created an ideology, a community were the one who run the country are also the one to direct it.
