The Golem is one of the most fascinating figures in Jewish mystique. Far more than just an animated clay creature, it is a deep meditation on the creative power of speech, the limitations of man against the divine, and the inherent dangers of any spiritual force that has become independent of its creator.
The most famous legend takes us to Prague, in the 16th century. The great Rabbi Loew ben Bezalel, molds in the mud of the Moldau river one
creature in human form: the Golem. He encourages him by writing on his forehead the Hebrew word Emet, composed of the letters Aleph, Mem, Tav, which means Truth. To destroy it, he will just delete the first letter, Aleph, leaving the word Met to be the word Met, Death. The creature was designed for a specific purpose: to protect the ghetto Jewish community from persecution, accusations of ritual murders, and violence from a hostile world.
