To the extent of my knowledge, most of the heavy anti-gun legislation present in Ireland is an after effect of The Troubles, but in spite of the conflict concluding decades ago, the same stringent regulations have yet to be altered, and I have not once seen a single politician or party campaigning to lower the restrictions on firearms.
