Anyways, the modern English people largely descend from two primary ancestral groups, the Anglo-Saxons(Angles, Saxons, Jutes) and the Britons(Various Brythonic Celtic tribes). Norman ancestry is not as common, only around 8k-10k Normans settled in England after their conquest and quickly the upper class became Anglo-Norman before just becoming Anglo again. English is still a Germanic language, just one that is heavily latinized. English is still more similar to the language of the Anglo Saxons than it is to Norman French. So the history of the Anglo Saxons plays a more important role in English identity than the history of the Normans.
