By a Dutch Sailor who then sold the claim to a group of Chuvash and Udmurt Nobles and Peasants due to conflict in their home and then were accompanied by Yukaghir and Ainu people who also wished for a new land of opportunity so joined their expedition to the land. By the 1700s it became independent and attracted further settlement to the island by Chuvashes, Udmurts, Yukaghirs and Ainu due to Tsarist taxes. Today in this alternate timeline the island is covered in grass and forest due to Birch and Spruce Seeds being introduced by Chuvash and Udmurt settlers and the economy is mostly farming, fishing and sealing/muttonbirding as well as introduced Reindeer herding.
