He was injured on the Eastern Front, apparently discharged for some reason and was sad to hear that. At his home, when he heard that American troops came rushing in his city, he rushed to get his SS uniform and dump it in the river. My friend's great aunt died recently, so he sadly didn't get the iron cross he wore. It's still in their uncle's hands, but he would find it awkward to ask for an iron cross and natsoc memorabilia from grieving family members.
