How has Chinese culture, language, and people survived for so long? Their writing system and language has been in continuous use for around 3000 years, same with their culture and people. There are relatively very little true invasions and replacements, and for the few that did happen the invaders quite literally got eaten whole by China itself (manchu language, which was used by the manchu invaders who conquered China, now only has 20 (yes twenty) speakers left, for example). Greek culture for example almost vanished after the Romans invaded, then the TVRKS, but has miraculously come back to life (because Greeks and Greek culture never really died o algo), but that's the only thing that comes to mind. The other great civilizations would be :
Roman: no true romans exist anymore but their culture has diffused enough (muh heccin theseus ship o algo)
Greek: came back to life after they gained independence
Sumerians:dead,but influenced everyone else (see how the epic of gilgamesh influenced Homer's epics)
Egyptian:dead, but also influenced everyone else other than sumerians.
Chinese: still kicking strong without any tenable 'pauses'. Greatly influenced or even created the so called sino-xenics (japan, korea, vietnam)
Hindu: still alive but begging to be put down. 99% of hindu people live in extreme poverty. their language itself has become bastardized with many english words replacing native hindi ones. they don't even use their writing system and use latin instead. their cultural practices are deplorable (adoration of cattle whom ironically trample over them, the whole toilets and excrement issue, lack of hygiene)

Because they have large numbers of people and that one of their main tenants - basically written into scripture - is the preservation of traditions, language, regional dialects (as extensively as town to town) and their old social hierarchies. Their way of speaking is heavily based on idioms everywhere, daily life, media, business communication, everything. Those idioms are usually about the stuff I mentioned. It's ironclad, especially with how many people they have.

Some of the bigger more political provinces and tier 1 cities have never been detached much from the standard dialect anyways, it was always mandarin. I definetely don't think it's dying.
