Ok I'm going to explain the theory in tl;dr terms

First of all, having unconnected brain hemispheres is not actually that big of deal, believe it or not. The surgery to sever one's hemispheres is still used to cure extreme cases of epilepsy, and yes it works almost every time. Side effects include rare uncontrolled movements from the left arm and not being able to remember things that you only saw with your left eye while your right eye was closed, strangely enough.

I. Research done on people with severed hemispheres has shown that each one can basically act as an independent brain, with few exceptions. Other research has shown that the left hemisphere is basically where (You) are. The right hemisphere is just here to help the left hemisphere. If your hemispheres are severed, your consciousness is traced to the left one. Weirdly enough, the left hemisphere controls the right side of your body (right eye, right arm, right leg, etc.) and vice versa.

II. Other experiments have demonstrated that people with severed hemispheres don't really know what the left part of their body is doing. If they see it with their right eye they understand what's going on, and usually the left side has the same goals and thought as the right side, but in experiments where the subject was given something, let's say an apple, in their left hand which was obstructed from view by a blanket, the patient could not tell what the left hand was holding until the blanket was lifted and direct eye contact was established.

III. Autistic children have been commonly reported to hear voices in their head that mostly just give them advice or guide them. Notably, the voices usually disappear by age 10. It is believed that their hemispheres are not properly connected at young age, so the right hemisphere talks to the left hemisphere this way.

IV. A very strange thing occurs in the texts of bronze age empires after the bronze age collapse: before the collapse all mentions of gods are written as if the gods are PHYSICALLY present in their day-to-day lives: people sometimes see the gods, sometimes talk to the gods, sometimes hear gods voices that tell them what to do, and they always leave food offerings to gods, not in a symbolical way, but they actually believe that gods go there and eat the food that was left for them. After the collapse it all disappears, they don't see the gods anymore. In fact, the texts straight up say that the gods abandoned them and they don't see or hear them anymore.

V. One dude lived with some snca nigger tribe for many years (as many researchers used to do in the 20th century), and what he discovered was that they were speaking to their spirits in their day to day life, and the spirits were offering advice. While myths and legends can be dismissed, the fact that there are ancient texts from some ancient civilizations where gods' physical presence is talked about as if it's a common thing, is very weird. And even more weird that it all faded away.

VII. Another weird coincidence is that around that time the position of the Oracle of Delphi disappears because the Greeks literally became unable to find a woman who could talk to the gods directly.

VIII. The right hemisphere processes most of the complex emotions and introspection. Weirdly enough, the amount of both of those things skyrockets after the great brain reconnection event compared to the pre bronze age collapse texts.
