its a novelty for its time, except unlike minidiscs or laserdiscs (which actually look cool) its just slightly better then CD's in terms of audio quality. If you use CDs you wont notice the difference unless your a uber-audiophile.

It was never worth it. Regular CD quality is audibly lossless and will still sound amazing today. At least if it was done properly, but then every other format would suck anyway if the engineers didn't do a good job.
