I only listen to remasters when I think the quality of the original hinders it, doe I canβt think of any examples right now. Most of the time, I can barely tell the difference, so I just use the original version of most albums when I listen to them for the first time

its just a better quality version, same thing

most of them time theyre useless. Theyve remastered the beatles god knows how many times and they still sound dogshit on headphones

>>144253the individual stems are made cleaner (thanks mostly to digital mixing and mastering) and some parts are rerecorded, making the music sound better.
>>144258the worst way to listen to the beatles is via the 2009 remasters since those are hardpanned left or right, listen to the versions on the ultra deluxes.

i usually listen to remasters because theyre louder
since i dont use streaming, its harder to keep everything a consistent volume
i have alot of loud music from the 2000s already so i try to have any new albums i download match that general level
i know people complain about the loss of dynamics but as an audio engineer, the only thing being compressed most of the time are the peaks of the drums
many original masters also dont use all the headroom available despite still being compressed leaving alot of missed gain on the table
i like my music to sound dense and the compression is almost always inaudible when at a normal listening volume anyway
youd have to lower it to really tell a difference

>>144261>listen to the versions on the ultra deluxestechnically those are remixes
a remaster still uses the same mix but maybe restored if necessary
