I saw that movie very recently and its probably one of my new favorites. Haven't seen Jacket yet but I plan to watch all of Kubrick's films very soon.

Platoon has some snca parts, but a lot of it is really gemmy. Other than that, I haven’t seen any particularly good war movies yet

Black Hawk Down has some okay combat scenes, but the characters are all nophonos and the plot is mostly snca. Doebeit they are fighting somalians, which is gemmy

Jarhead has some geggy scenes of Jake Gyllenhaal’s character leaking, but it’s really sort of derivative of full metal jacket and as far as I remember doesn’t have any actual battle scenes

Three Kings is kind of gemmy. Doebeit, it’s more of a heist movie, but I’d still recommend it. The plot of Battlefield: Gem Company is basically ripped straight from it

haven't watched apocalypse now yet, but FMJ was pretty good.
If you want a realistic ww2 depiction, I really liked band of brothers, its 10 episodes. The combat is well represented

Purgatory (1997) is basically SNCA and there is a 101% chance that you have never heard this in your life which makes it secretly the most accurate war movie ever created. It's one of those that are low budget enough that they just use actual gore of butchered animals instead of fake blood and props
It's the only movie I know that I genuinely cried to, and every time I watch it I cry, it can bring you back down to earth
It is just under 2 hours length. If you want the best quality version, you'll probably have to sail the high seas to get it, and chances are you also don't speak Russian language, but there are websites where you can also download a .srt file which you can put into your downloaded VLC media copy of the film for free English language subtitles

Also, I think Apocalypse Now was very good, I also enjoyed Behind Enemy Lines, this one definitely doesn't have much realism at all, it is just a fun average tier war movie, and also a huge classic

Probably more of a documentary than a regular movie but if you like Vietnam stuff then Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam is a gem too

i really like the beast of war from 1988. it's about a soviet tank crew in afghanistan. it's a very good movie, but it has some mistakes in editing that become very noticable the 2nd time you watch it

probably they were conscripts, or not russian and had a grudge against the soviet government. there was at least one russian guy still living in afghanistan that RT made a documentary about, and he was totally naturalised and had an afghan wife and kids

I can recall how much of an experience it was for me. Definitely one of the greatest movies of all time, rife with allegories.
