>祕密主!愚童凡夫類猶如羝羊,或時有一法想生,所謂持齋。彼思惟此少分,發起歡喜,數數修習。Lord of Mysteries! The foolish and child-like common folk are the likes of rams, who at certain times may give rise to a single thought: namely that of fasting. The thought lasts for but a moment, but brings forth joy, and for a short time they may practice it.
>祕密主!是初種子善業發生,復以此為因,於六齋日施與父母男女親戚,是第二牙種。Lord of Mysteries! This is the first stage, the Planting of Seeds, and arising of good karma, and with this as their cause they may begin bestowing gifts upon their parents and relatives on the six fasting days—this is the second stage, the Sprouting Seed.
>復以此施授與非親識者,是第三疱種。Then, they may begin bestowing these gifts upon non-relatives, which is the third stage, the Budding Seed.
>復以此施與器量高德者,是第四葉種。They may then bestow these gifts upon those of capacity and virtue, which is the fourth stage, the Seed Coming to Leaf.
>復以此施歡喜授與伎樂人等及獻尊宿,是第五敷華。They may then bestow these gifts with gladness upon the likes of musicians, and respected elders, which is the fifth stage, the Spreading of Flowers.
