I actually wanted to make a thread 'bout it with this comment on it:
It's incredibly appalling that the term "indie" became more a genre than a simple label for a media product. I'd say the so-called "Golden Age" of age "indie animation" was the oldfag days of the 2000s, when it was actually just random independent animators making random raisin for GEGs without getting their egos inflated by the fact that they're were outside the "mainstream".

Now you don't have even be by definition indie. Just as long as you have the characteristics of what you listed in the OP:
>having bright colors, heckin' nostalgic animation, epic swearing, troon characters
is enough for the collective conscience to label it as such. I doesn't help that the most experimental and technically impressive animations are done by professionals doing contract work for the evil capitalistic big studios anyway. Literally all indieslop is just shameless derivative brimstone produced because the greedy executives won't continue their favorite manchild IP, with the only big exception being Minecraft.
