I genuinely do not understand why people treat the fertility decline in certain countries as some kind of catastrophe, given that sub-Saharan Africa has some of the highest birth rates on the planet, India alone holds over a billion people, and the world is hardly running short of human beings. The idea that this is a crisis seems to rest entirely on whose civilization we are talking about. And of course it does, because when you strip away the demographic language and the graphs and the think pieces, it has always, every single time, been about Western European whites.
