>Anime is excellent art/animation but mostly neurotic and negative stories from what I have seen/heard with no clear heroes or catharsis - just continuous screaming, yelling and confusion. As a teacher in middle and high schools for 10 years in NYC and upstate, I have seen the damage much of this so called art form does to kids. It keeps them locked into a immature neurotic adolescence. It seems that kids from broken families and lower socioeconomic backgrounds relate and connect with the despondent nature/story telling of this art form which I believe - along with Godzilla - is a reaction to the extreme demoralizing evil event of the fire bombing of major cities in Japan at the end of WW2 culminating in the dropping of nuclear bombs by the USA on two cities, instantly killing over a 100,000 and injuring thousands more for life. By Using these extreme and evil man made weapons on other humans - it left such a collective emotional/psychic scar on Japanese citizens that these anime/Manga artists born generations after - used this art medium as a means of expression drenched in post apocalyptic war darkness - which does not help lead to any healing and only makes new generations of kids stay locked into a depressed doomsday neurosis versus seeking solutions to the problems humanity faces. Just Another form of unhealthy escapism for the masses. God help us - we need it.
